| After graduating
from the Technical University in Vienna as a Diplom
Engineer for Electrical and Electronic Engineering
(MSEE), Franz worked as an Assistant Professor at the
Institute for Electrical Measurements at that University.
His research field was High Speed Analog and Digital
Electronics. Shortly before finishing his Ph.D., Franz was selected to become a Cosmonaut and began a two-year training program in the Russian Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. He trained for the joint Austrian-Soviet Mission Austromir. After this space flight (October 2 through 10, 1991), he was given a two-year contract from the Austrian government to tour the country, giving lectures relative to his flight experiences and continue work on the scientific experiments. In early 1994, Franz accepted a position with Rockwell Space Systems Division as a Program Development Manager for joint international programs with emphasis on aerospace companies from Europe and the former Soviet Union. Shortly after Boeing acquired the former Rockwell Aerospace and Defense group, Franz became Director of International Business Development for Boeing North American, INC.- Space Systems Division. In July 1997 he accepted a position to support, coordinate an direct the International Business Development for Boeings newly formed Space System Business unit as Director, International Programs. In support of Boeings vision to become a Global Company he got the assignment in June 1999 as European representative for Boeings Space & Communications Group and Country Director for the Boeing Company in Austria. In March 2000, in addition to his activities with Boeing, he became Technology Advisor for the Governor of Lower Austria. In this function he developed a strategy to boost the development of technologies in the region. After eigth successful years with an American Company, Franz Viehb–ck took a new challenge and accepted the position of the President of Berndorf Band GesmbH & Co in Austria. This company is part of the Berndorf Corporation, and is a world leader in the production of endless steel belts. In his free time, Franz enjoys playing piano, traveling with the family or simply meeting his friends. His favorite sports include mountain and water skiing, swimming, water-polo and tennis.
